Engineering Controls During Mold Remediation

• Isolation: SERVPRO techs use different types of physical barriers to isolate the mold-affected areas depending on the extent of the mold damage. We use 6-mil polyethylene sheeting to erect barriers and seal off areas to prevent cross-contamination. 
• Pressure differentials: Techs use pressure differentials to manage airflow between your property's contaminated and non-contaminated areas. The contaminated areas are negatively pressurized compared to the unaffected areas to create a pressure differential of ≥ 5 Pascals using negative air machines (NAMs). 

• Air-moving devices: We also use air-moving devices fitted with HEPA filters to prevent airborne mold spores and particles from escaping the contaminated areas.

Decontamination Chamber

Techs erect decon chambers using PVC piping, wood studs, and one or two layers of polyethylene sheeting. We also install “Z” or “T” plastic flaps on the entry and exit sides to limit the cross-contamination between clean and affected areas.
